Hamburg Railway Station, Germany.

Hamburg Hauptbahnhof was opened in 1906 to replace 4 terminal stations. Hamburg Hauptbahnhof serves an average of 450,000 passengers a day. The station is the busiest in Germany and after the Gare du Nord in Paris, the second busiest in Europe. The station is a through station with island platforms and is a major transportation hub, connecting long distance trains, like the some Intercity - Express lines, to the underground rail network of the Hamburg U-Bahn and S- Bahn. It is situated in the city centre, in the Hamburg- Mitte borough. A part of the building is a shopping centre.

Grand Old Union Station, Nashville, U.S.A.

The station and train shed were built in the 1890s by the Louisville and Nashville Railroad as a major transfer station for routing passengers to the Midwest and West. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1977. The train shed was the longest single-span, gable roof structure constructed in the United States. The train shed was demolished in 2001 due to dangerous structural deterioration, leading to withdrawal of National Historic Landmark designation in 2003. The station building today is The Wyndham Grand Hotel, Nashville, Tennessee.

Burlington Northern Class EMDSD40-2 Locomotives, U.S.A.

The Burlington Northern Railroad was a US based railroad company formed from a merger of four major U.S. railroads. Burlington Northern operated between 1970 and 1996. Burlington Northern merged with the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway in 1996 to form the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway (renamed BNSF Railway). Here Class EMDSD40 -2 locomotives identified as BNSF # 7842 & 6800 with a third locomotive (number unknown) transporting a freight train has just crossed the Skykomish River on it’s way over the Cascade Mountains near Washington.

Shin Yambiko Railway Bridge, Kurobe, Japan.

Shin Yamabiko Railway Bridge is on the Kurobo Gorge Railway which runs between Unazuki and Kuronangi along the Korobo River in Toyama, Japan.

Port Swettenham Railway Station, Malaysia.

The town of Klang is situated on swampy ground lying between the Klang River from which it takes its name and a semicircle of low hills. Klang was formerly the terminus of the government railway. It was re-named Port Swettenham in 1901. The post card shows the railways station as seen in the 1910’s.

Bukit Timah Railway Station, Singapore.

The Bukit Timah Railway Station was opened in 1915 as part of the Singapore-Kranji Railway, also known as the Singapore Government Railway. Constructed between 1900 and 1902, the line ran from the terminal at Tank Road towards Woodlands via Cuppage Road, Newton Circus, Cluny Road (where Adam Flyover is today) and finally to Bukit Timah, before proceeding to Kranji and Woodlands where it continued to Malaysia via the former Federated Malay States Railway. The Bukit Timah Railway Station (now belongs to Singapore) has been officially gazetted as a conserved building.

125 Years of Railway in Malaysia - Class A & B

Malaysian State Railways used these general utility locomotives between 1890 and 1895. There were 25 locomotives in operation on the Perrak and Selangor State Railways and also in Singapore and Malacca.. The locos were later taken over by the Federation of Malay State Railway and remained in active service until the 1920's. on both passenger and freight trains and later on construction trains fornthe new East Coast Railway.

125 Years of Railway in Malaysia - Class 40.

Class 40 locomotives were used between 1930 and 1950's of the Malaysian Railwas for both passenger and local freight trains. In the 195o's these locos were seen working in Port Swettenham to assist the main line trains. over the pass between Taiping and Padang Rengas.

125 Years of Railway in Malaysia - Class 16

Class 16 locomotives were used in the Port Swettenham warf and later on at the refinery at Port Dickson

125 Years of Railway in Malaysia - Class 55

Federation of Malayan State Railways used Class 55 locomotives in the 1920's to haul the night mail trains. Two locomotives - double headed were used on these heavy freight trains.

125 Yeras of Railway in Malaysia - Class 51

Federation Malayan State Railways has 34 Class 51 locomotives, then known as Q Class in operation between 1919- 1930's on the main line for both passenger and freight transportation.

Penang Hill Railway, Malaysia.

The Penang Hill Railway is a two section funicular railway which climbs Penang Hill from Air Itam near George Town on the island of Penang in Malaysia. The total journey takes about half an hour, with passengers changing cars at the mid-point station. Construction of the railway took place between 1906 to 1923. The railway was opened to the public on October 21, 1923. New cars were provided in 1977.
